Worked assiduously to secure release of Indian fishermen from Bangladesh: MEA
Earlier on Thursday, 95 Indian fishermen were handed over by Bangladesh authorities to the Bangladesh Coast Guard for handing over to the Indian Coast Guard on January 5.

The chlorite stone carved idol was stuck in the fishing net in the river between Dhansantra and Jagannathpur villages in Khatra. The district administration has planned to invite researchers to help identify the idol, especially after divided opinions of local historians and researchers.

A section of the researchers claimed it’s a deity of Shantinatha – the 16th Jain Tirthankara, one among five, who is most revered in the Jain community. While some prescribed it as the idol of Rishabhanatha, the first of the Tirthankaras, Sukumar Banerjee, regional history researcher said: “There are several pieces of evidence like the deity figure placed over a deer that suggests it’s Shantinatha.”

After the SDM, Khatra, Subham Mourya ordered for preservation, the sculpture was temporarily shifted to the collectorate’s treasury.
In 2022, a Hero Stone of the ninth century was recovered from the Shilavati riverbed at Indpur.
